In a bid to recover from a disappointing 2-1 loss to Uganda in their opening match, the Flying Eagles triumphed over South Sudan with a 1-0 victory in their second Group B game on Monday. Sadiq Isiyiaka, the scorer of Nigeria’s lone goal against Uganda, redeemed the team by converting a penalty in the second half for the crucial win.

The Ladan Bosso-led side is now focused on their final group game against Senegal on Friday, aiming to secure qualification for the semi-finals of the men’s football event. Despite the challenges, Uganda currently leads Group B with six points after defeating Senegal 1-0 on Monday.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Under-20 women’s football team, the Falconets, showcased their prowess on Monday by defeating Senegal 4-0, securing a spot in the semi-finals of the All Africa Games at Cape Coast Stadium. Loveth Edeh, Motunrayo Ezekiel, Chioma Olise, and an own goal propelled the Falconets to victory, leading to their advancement in the tournament.

Edeh opened the scoring in the 14th minute, and despite Senegal’s efforts, the solid Nigerian defense held firm. In the second half, Ezekiel doubled the lead five minutes in, while a defensive error from Senegal resulted in an own goal by Aiche Kalas a minute later.

The Christopher Danjuma-led Falconets approached the game with confidence after defeating Morocco 2-0 in their first match on March 8. As the defending champions, Nigeria competes in Group B alongside Morocco, Senegal, and Cameroon, while hosts Ghana, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda form Group A.

The 13th African Games, spanning from March 8 to March 23, are hosted across three cities in Ghana: Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast. The victories by the Flying Eagles and the Falconets contribute to Nigeria’s pursuit of success in the prestigious continental sporting event.
