El-Rufai Denies Misappropriation Allegations, Vows to Prove Innocence by Swearing on the Quran

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has firmly rejected allegations of financial misappropriation against his administration, stating on Tuesday that he is willing to swear by the Quran to demonstrate his innocence.
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai recently shared insights into his political motivations during a Hausa program on Freedom Radio. He emphasized that his entry into politics was driven by a genuine desire to serve the people, rather than for personal gain or corruption.
“I did not join politics to steal money or enrich myself. I was satisfied with what I had before becoming governor,” El-Rufai stated. He expressed his commitment to integrity, saying, “I strive not to betray the trust of the people.” He challenged former governors of Kaduna and other leaders to swear with the Quran that they have not misappropriated public funds, confidently asserting, “I have no fear because I know I never took money that belonged to the people.”
El-Rufai affirmed that he has placed his fate in God’s hands, noting, “I have prayed and will remain silent on the issue.” He has instructed his legal team to pursue action against those damaging his reputation, but for now, he is focusing on personal pursuits like reading and writing.
Looking ahead, El-Rufai hinted at a return to politics in 2027 after completing his studies, stating, “There is no retirement in politics.” His remarks come in response to a recent report from the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which accused his administration of misappropriating N423 billion during his eight-year term. Some of his former cabinet members have dismissed the allegations, calling the report politically motivated.
