In Ebonyi State, residents of the Nwezenyi area in Igbeagu, Izzi Local Government Area, are in shock following the reported kidnapping of three children by a woman who had only recently moved into their community. Over the weekend, the siblings , identified as Favour, Obinna, and Kamso Okeoha , were taken from their family home while their parents were away, according to accounts from neighbours and local sources.
According to several eyewitnesses, the suspect is a yet-to-be-identified young woman who had rented an apartment in the compound just days before the incident occurred. Residents said she moved into the home on Thursday, appeared to settle in by Friday, and then carried out the abduction on Saturday morning. One local resident described how the woman had tried to appear friendly, even painting her room and writing phrases like “one love” around the compound , behaviour several people now believe was a calculated way to gain trust before she carried out the crime.
The community has been left reeling, with many expressing fear and confusion over how easily the woman was accepted into the area and how quickly she vanished with the children. Residents say they do not know her identity and that she was not from the neighbourhood, raising serious concerns about security and tenant screening in the area.
Efforts to get official confirmation from the Ebonyi State Police Command were initially met with limited information. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, told reporters he was not immediately aware of the incident but said he would follow up with officers in the local division to determine how the investigation is progressing and what efforts are being made to locate the children and apprehend the suspect.
The abduction has understandably left the community on edge, with families urging local authorities to step up security and quickly find the missing children. As investigations continue, residents remain hopeful that law enforcement will succeed in rescuing the siblings and bringing those responsible to justice.
