One Killed, Several Injured as Police Foil Kidnapping Attempt in Katsina
1 min readA kidnapping attempt in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State turned tragic on November 24, 2024, when one of the victims succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during the attack. The incident occurred around 7:55 PM when armed bandits, wielding dangerous weapons, ambushed two commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along the Magama-Jibia road, firing indiscriminately in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Jibia, upon receiving the distress call, led a team of officers to the scene. They engaged the bandits in a fierce gunfight, successfully thwarting the kidnapping and rescuing 14 victims. However, two of the rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Tragically, one of the injured victims died while receiving care. The other victim remains under medical observation. The police are continuing their efforts to track down the fleeing bandits, who remain at large.
Katsina State Police Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the details of the incident, highlighting the bravery of the police officers who responded swiftly to the attack. The Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Musa, praised the officers’ gallantry and urged the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
