Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi of Imo East Senatorial District and Representative Salman Idris have officially announced their departure from the Labour Party (LP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) respectively, opting instead to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Their decisions were made public during a plenary session held on Tuesday.

“The lawmaker representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives officially announced his political decision in a letter read on Tuesday by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen. Meanwhile, earlier that day, the Senate adhered to its rules by admitting Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma into the hallowed chamber.”

“Uzodimma, Chairman of the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum, and his team were present to witness Senator Onyewuchi’s defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the ruling APC. In his letter, Onyewuchi, representing Imo East Senatorial District, cited the crisis within the Labour Party as the reason for his departure. He emphasized that his decision aligns with constitutional principles.

Following his announcement, Onyewuchi was warmly welcomed by APC lawmakers and escorted to take his seat at the APC wing of the Senate Chambers. His defection now brings the number of APC Senators from Imo State to three.”
