Pathologist Unable to Determine Cause of Mohbad’s Death, Says Autopsy Results

The findings of the autopsy conducted on the body of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad, reportedly failed to provide clarity on the cause of his demise.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab Shittu, shared this revelation during a press briefing at the coroner’s inquest in Lagos State on Wednesday.

According to Shittu, the pathologist overseeing the autopsy informed the coroner that decomposition had significantly progressed in the deceased’s body by the time the examination was carried out.

He explained, “The pathologist stated that due to the advanced state of decomposition, determining the cause of death was not feasible. Hence, in essence, it’s inconclusive. When a cause of death cannot be determined, it implies suspicion and lack of clarity, without a specific reason.”

Shittu further relayed that the pathologist suggested the late singer might have succumbed to adverse reactions to medications administered before his demise.

“He also mentioned uncertainty regarding whether these drugs contributed to the death,” Shittu added.

The legal expert urged the public not to rush to conclusions, emphasizing the expertise of the pathologist who provided the report.

He also disclosed that he hadn’t yet obtained the complete report, noting the coroner’s advice to file a formal request for access.

Shittu revealed that a date had been scheduled for cross-examination of the pathologist regarding the autopsy findings.

He cautioned, “Let’s refrain from hasty reactions until we have thoroughly examined the full report. As of now, I haven’t seen the complete report. The court has advised us to seek access to it. Before reaching any conclusions, we must scrutinize not only the final verdict but also the rationale behind it.”

Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music under Naira Marley’s ownership, passed away on September 12 at the age of 27, triggering speculation on social media about the circumstances of his demise.

The Lagos State Police Command subsequently formed a 13-member special investigation team to probe the incident on September 18, 2023.

His death resulted in the arrest of Naira Marley and Balogun Eletu, alias Sam Larry, among others.

On September 21, 2023, Mohbad’s body was exhumed for an autopsy to uncover the cause of death.

In April, it was reported that toxicology tests aimed at determining the cause of his death had been completed, with the results forwarded to the conducting pathologist for analysis and interpretation.
