In a highly anticipated showdown, Tobi Amusan and Kendra Harrison are set to renew their rivalry in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2024 Adidas Atlanta City Games on Saturday, May 28.
Amusan, the 27-year-old Nigerian athlete, will return to the US for the race, facing off against Harrison, the former world record holder. Amusan’s remarkable performance of 12.40 seconds at the 2024 Jamaican Athletics Invitational in Kingston, Jamaica, adds to the anticipation of this clash between the two fastest women in the event’s history.
With a current world record of 12.12 seconds set in Eugene, Oregon, in 2022, Amusan is determined to add Olympic gold in Paris to her accomplishments, complementing her world 100m hurdles title from Oregon two years ago. Despite Harrison holding a 17-7 advantage over Amusan in previous encounters, the Nigerian has emerged victorious in seven out of their last 10 confrontations.
Organizers have announced the participation of eight different international champions, including Olympic, world, and European champions, in the Adidas Atlanta City Games. The event distinguishes itself as North America’s sole “street meet,” bringing world-class track and field out of traditional stadiums and onto a temporary straightaway in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park.
