Flight Operations Diverted: FAAN Reacts Swiftly to Fire Incident at Lagos Airport

1 min read

Following a fire incident at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken decisive action, diverting all flight operations from terminal 1 to the D Wing.

Reports indicate that smoke was observed emanating from the E54 bridge at 5:39 am on Thursday, prompting immediate action from electrical engineers to disconnect power to the entire E wing of the airport.

FAAN, confirming the incident, stated that the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) promptly responded to the situation, swiftly arriving at the scene.

“While initial suspicions suggest sparks from an electrical unit as the cause, a thorough investigation is underway to determine the root cause of the fire,” FAAN explained.

By 6:41 am, authorities had successfully brought the situation under control as the incident, which had escalated into a fire, was contained.

“Efforts to ventilate the affected area are currently underway,” FAAN assured.

In the interim, all flight operations at terminal 1 of MMA have been rerouted to the D Wing, ensuring minimal disruption to travel schedules amidst the ongoing investigation and recovery efforts.
