Big Brother Naija Season 7 Winner, Phyna, Rejects Sponsor Offers Amid Prize Redemption Dispute

Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, widely known as Phyna, winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, has declined offers from the show sponsors concerning her prize wins, prolonging the deadlock over prize redemption. Phyna, accompanied by her legal representative Olawale Amousa and Michael Obinna Nwabufo, the acting president of the Practitioners of Content Creating, Skit-making, and Influencers Guild of Nigeria (PCCSIGN), convened at the MultiChoice office on Thursday, April 18, 22024, in an attempt to resolve the ongoing prize redemption controversy.
This development follows Phyna’s recent Instagram post, where she voiced concerns about yet-to-be-received prizes from her 2022 victory, notably her Bitcoin prize and a trip for two.
In response to the situation, PCCSIGN intervened, demanding the fulfilment of various prizes, including 1BTC, Pepsi product supplies, a trip for two to Dubai, and a soap product supply.
A statement released by PCCSIGN on Thursday disclosed that agreements with Pepsi and Unik Soap are set for delivery on Friday, April 19, 2024. However, offers from Travelbeta and Quidax Global have been rebuffed.
According to Nwabufo, Travelbeta proposed a trip for two to Morocco or Kenya, which was rejected due to Phyna’s initial preference for the Maldives or Jamaica.
Regarding the 1BTC prize, an offer based on the 2022 Naira equivalent was made, amounting to N13 million. However, PCCSIGN and Phyna’s legal team declined, citing concerns over potential repercussions stemming from MultiChoice’s handling of the situation.
Nwabufo emphasized that the agreed-upon 1BTC should be based on the current exchange rate. MultiChoice has agreed to further discuss this matter with Quidax Global and provide a response to PCCSIGN and Phyna, as stated in the released statement.
