The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended and detained the controversial figure, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, on charges related to the abuse of the Nigerian currency, spraying of naira notes, and currency mutilation.

Bobrisky, who has been embroiled in numerous controversies in recent weeks, was arrested in Lagos on Wednesday night and is currently being held at the Lagos Command of the EFCC.

Confirming the arrest in a telephone interview with our correspondent, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated that Bobrisky would face charges in court. Oyewale emphasized the EFCC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the Nigerian currency, highlighting ongoing investigations into the matter.

In a subsequent statement titled “EFCC Grills Bobrisky for Naira Abuse,” posted on its social media channels, the EFCC detailed its investigation into the allegations. The investigation stemmed from a video report showing Bobrisky spraying and flaunting wads of new Naira notes at a movie premiere in Lagos on March 24, 2024.

The statement further revealed that Bobrisky had allegedly engaged in similar activities at other event venues and parties on different occasions. Following the EFCC’s invitation, Bobrisky voluntarily presented himself for interrogation at the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC on Wednesday, April 4, 2024, where he provided statements.

Upon the completion of investigations, Bobrisky will be charged to court to face the allegations brought against him.
