Breaking Barriers: Dr. Adaora Umeoji Appointed Zenith Bank’s First Female Group Managing Director

In a historic move, Zenith Bank Plc announced the appointment of Dr. Adaora Umeoji as its new Group Managing Director, marking her as the first female to hold this esteemed position within the bank. The appointment, effective June 1, 2024, follows the tenure of the current GMD, Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, whose term ends on May 31.

2. Additionally, she holds Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Law with a first-class honor from Baze University, Abuja.
3. Dr. Umeoji holds a Master of Law from the University of Salford, UK, and an MBA from the University of Calabar.
4. She attended prestigious management programs at Harvard Business School and Wharton Business School in the USA.
5. Dr. Umeoji also completed executive programs in Strategic Management and holds certificates from leading institutions such as Harvard Business School and Columbia Business School.
6. Notably, she earned a Doctorate in Business Administration from Apollos University, USA.
7. Her academic credentials also include certificates from MIT Sloan School of Management, USA.
8. She is a fellow of several esteemed institutions, including the Chartered Banker Institute, UK, and the Nigerian Institute of Management, among others.
9. Dr. Umeoji is recognized for her contributions to nation-building and was honored with the national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger by the Federal Government in 2022.
10. Furthermore, she serves as a Peace Advocate of the United Nations (UN-POLAC) and is the founder of the Catholic Bankers Association of Nigeria.

With over 30 years of experience in the banking sector, Dr. Umeoji has held the position of Deputy Managing Director at Zenith Bank since October 28, 2016.
