President Tinubu Addresses Economic Challenges and Promises Transformation for Nigeria

1 min read

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to exhibit patience, assuring them that the economic reforms under his administration will pave the way for a more stable and prosperous future. Speaking at an event in Abuja on Tuesday, March 5, Tinubu challenged the characterization of Nigeria’s economic situation as ‘distress,’ emphasizing that it presents unprecedented opportunities for reshaping the economy.

Tinubu acknowledged the challenging times but highlighted the potential for reassessment and the establishment of a new, sustainable economy. He commended the Leadership Group for making difficult but necessary decisions, citing the significant impact of fuel subsidy removal on petrol imports and the subsequent increase in government revenues.

Since subsidy removal, petrol imports halved, saving about a billion liters, per Nigerian Bureau of Statistics. The revenue surge, up by 50-100%, now funds critical infrastructure, social security, and other vital areas, directly impacting Nigerians’ lives.”

President Tinubu pointed out that the increased funds are being directed towards initiatives such as a new minimum wage. Negotiations have commenced among the federal government, state governments, organized labor, and the private sector to ensure a fair and equitable outcome for all parties involved.
