1 min readRenowned American media personality and talk show icon, Wendy Williams Hunter, was diagnosed last year with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). This information was disclosed by her team to address inaccurate and hurtful rumors circulating about her health. Williams is best known for hosting the nationally syndicated Wendy Williams Show for over a decade, which concluded in 2022 due to her ongoing health challenges.
According to BBC reports, the 59-year-old received her diagnosis a day after being featured on the cover of People Magazine. Her care team released a statement on Thursday, stating, “As Wendy’s fans are aware, in the past she has been open with the public about her medical struggles with Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema as well as other significant challenges related to her health.”
“Over the past few years, questions have been raised regarding Wendy’s ability to process information, and many have speculated about her condition, particularly noticing difficulties in word retrieval, occasional erratic behavior, and challenges in understanding financial transactions.”
Aphasia, a nervous system syndrome, impacts communication abilities, often resulting in difficulties expressing thoughts and even loss of speech or writing ability. FTD, on the other hand, is an incurable brain disorder caused by damage to the left side of the brain, affecting language and communication skills.
