Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has addressed the growing debate surrounding cosmetic surgery after the reported death of a woman linked to complications from a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).
The actress reacted in a video shared on social media following the tragic passing of a woman identified as Elena Jessica, an incident that sparked widespread criticism of cosmetic procedures and renewed discussions about their safety. Ogbodo explained that although the loss was painful and heartbreaking, it should not automatically lead to the complete condemnation of cosmetic surgery.
According to her, while BBL is widely known to be risky, the same can be said for many other medical procedures. She pointed out that people can lose their lives during various surgeries, including operations considered routine. Ogbodo stressed that every surgical procedure carries some level of risk and that BBL should not be singled out as the only dangerous medical operation.
The actress also noted that she had been tagged repeatedly online by critics because she has previously spoken in support of cosmetic enhancement procedures. Responding to the backlash, she explained that her intention has never been to encourage reckless decisions but rather to emphasize the importance of being informed before undergoing any surgery.
Ogbodo advised individuals considering cosmetic procedures to properly educate themselves about the process, the risks involved, and the importance of choosing qualified medical professionals. She added that proper aftercare is equally important, explaining that infections and complications can occur if patients fail to follow post-surgery medical instructions.
The actress further stated that some women choose procedures like BBL or “mummy makeover” surgeries after childbirth as a way to regain confidence in their bodies. According to her, motherhood often changes a woman’s body, and some may decide to pursue cosmetic enhancements to feel comfortable and confident again.
