Veteran Nollywood icon Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has finally put to rest years of speculation about a supposed feud with fellow A-lister Genevieve Nnaji — and the truth might surprise fans.
In a candid interview on Yanga FM, Omotola dismissed the long-standing rumour as nothing more than a narrative created by fans and the media. “Na them start the quarrel before we know say we dey quarrel. There was no quarrel,” she said, blending English and Pidgin as she explained how the story got started.
Not Best Friends, But Not Enemies Either
Addressing years of commentary and online debates that often painted the two actresses as rivals, Omotola was clear: not being best friends doesn’t mean they were at war. She explained that they’ve always communicated normally off camera and maintained a respectful professional relationship.
“People don’t need to be best friends,” Omotola stressed, noting that the industry ,much like the music world , likes to pit big names against each other for excitement. She even drew a comparison to the way fans once debated whether Wizkid or Davido was the bigger star, saying the feud narrative around herself and Genevieve was similarly exaggerated.
Where the Rumour Really Started
According to Omotola, the idea of conflict began long ago when fans and media personalities constantly compared the two stars, trying to determine who was the “hottest” or the most celebrated actress. That narrative snowballed until it reached a point where even the celebrities themselves had to acknowledge it ,jokingly, she said ,
,just because it became so widespread.
Fans React
Social media reactions have been mixed. Many fans welcomed the clarity, choosing to celebrate both women’s huge contributions to Nollywood rather than speculate on imagined rivalry. Others used the moment to reflect on how quickly narratives spread online.
