In a red carpet interview with OkayAfrica, Omah Lay said his assumption stemmed from a lack of direct interaction and the competitive nature of the music industry, leading him to think there was tension between them. He recalled being at home when he came across a clip showing Davido reacting positively to his music, which completely changed his perception. “At first, I honestly thought Davido didn’t like me,” Omah Lay admitted, describing how the misunderstanding dissolved once they connected and began working together. “It was funny, and we connected so well after that. Boom , magic happened.” Their collaboration, With You, featured on Davido’s album 5ive, has been nominated in the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammy Awards , marking a major milestone for Omah Lay and showcasing how creative partnerships can emerge from unexpected beginnings.
