Veteran Welsh actor Sir Jonathan Pryce is back in his homeland for his latest television role, returning to what he calls the “land of my fathers.” The acclaimed performer stars as Solomon Bevan, a farmer at the heart of a new crime thriller titled Under Salt Marsh, set and filmed across North Wales including Gwynedd and Anglesey.
Under Salt Marsh follows a gripping mystery in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen, where the discovery of a young boy’s body brings long‑buried secrets to light just before a massive storm threatens to wash away all evidence. Pryce shares the screen with Kelly Reilly,best known from Yellowstone,and Rafe Spall as part of the ensemble cast.
For Pryce, the role holds personal significance. He grew up in Holywell, North Wales, and said taking on the character offered a chance to revisit the landscapes and memories of his youth. He drew inspiration from local farmers he saw growing up and even nodded to his own Welsh family history in shaping his performance.
This project marks another chapter in Pryce’s long and varied career, which includes roles as historical figures like Prince Philip in The Crown and deeply dramatic parts on stage and screen.
