Federal Government Declares December 25, 26, and January 1 as Public Holidays for Christmas and New Year Celebrations
The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, December 25; Thursday, December 26; and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations.
The announcement was made by Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani, on Monday.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo conveyed festive greetings to Nigerians, urging citizens to embrace the values of love, peace, and unity that the season represents. He emphasized that the Christmas period offers a meaningful opportunity for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. “As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and goodwill toward one another, regardless of our differences,” he stated.
The Minister also called for strengthened familial and community bonds, highlighting the importance of fostering harmony, which is essential for the country’s overall development.
Reassuring Nigerians of the government’s commitment to the nation’s progress, Tunji-Ojo assured that the government would continue to prioritize peace, security, and prosperity. He expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda would guide the country toward a more prosperous 2025.
