Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Hints at Another Governorship Run in Lagos, Criticizes Sanwo-Olu’s Administration
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s candidate in the last Lagos State governorship election, has indicated his intention to run for the position again, citing lessons learned from past mistakes and a commitment to strengthening his political movement. In an interview with Iyabo Ojo TV on YouTube, published on Sunday, Rhodes-Vivour emphasized the importance of remaining visible and active in opposition politics, noting that unlike the typical post-election silence from opposition parties, his movement intends to stay engaged.
“We gained a lot of traction, and we also saw our mistakes and the loopholes we made. The biggest mistake in Lagos politics is that after elections, the opposition goes quiet. That will not happen this time,” Rhodes-Vivour stated.
He also criticized the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for what he described as extravagant spending amid the economic hardships faced by many Lagosians. Rhodes-Vivour pointed to instances of alleged misuse of taxpayers’ money, including the payment of personal legal bills, nearly ₦200 million spent on unspecified projects, and a claim of ₦2 billion allocated for purchasing fans and hiring consultants for bus network planning.
“In the face of the suffering Lagosians are enduring, we need accountability and transparency,” he said. “Our government must use public funds efficiently, and it is the responsibility of the opposition to ensure this happens.”
In addition to his criticism of the current administration, Rhodes-Vivour highlighted ongoing efforts by his team to engage with Lagosians, particularly through health outreach programs. He mentioned the introduction of a micro-health insurance plan offering free treatment worth up to ₦6,000, aimed at improving access to healthcare across the state.
“We’re doing our best with health outreaches and making sure people can access treatment. We’re also staying informed and active in current affairs,” Rhodes-Vivour added.
