Paramo Trade Center Chairman Urges Peace and Unity Among Stakeholders at Ladipo Market
Femi Martins, Chairman of the Paramo International Trade Center Board, has called on stakeholders in the Ladipo market, located in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State, to prioritize peace and unity, urging them to set aside any bitterness. Martins made the statement during a meeting with stakeholders on Thursday, organized at the request of the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Emmanuel Bamgboye.
Martins explained that the board was established following the enactment of several bylaws by the legislative arm of the local government on November 22, 2024. He further noted that the Paramo International Trade Center board was inaugurated on November 25, 2024, with the primary responsibility of addressing conflicts, including a recent clash triggered by a disputed election in the market.
“The board has been tasked with resolving existing disagreements, ensuring peace, and fostering unity among market stakeholders,” Martins said. “Our objective today is to initiate a process of lasting peace within the market. We urge everyone present to express their concerns constructively, with a focus on promoting peace and harmony.”
Emmanuel Nbamara, one of the stakeholders, condemned election-related violence and emphasized the importance of free and fair elections in the market. Fausat, the wife of the late Hassan Olajoku, for whom the market is named, shared insights on the market’s history, explaining that it originally had a structure, including an advisory committee, to maintain peace and order.
The meeting, which brought together representatives from the three major tribes in the area, was adjourned until Thursday, December 12, 2024. Martins concluded the session by urging all parties to maintain peace and lawfulness in the market as they work towards resolving their differences.
