Taraba Police Confirm Robbery on Wukari-Kente Road, Investigate Governor’s Family Involvement
On Friday morning, the Taraba State Police confirmed that a robbery attack occurred on the Wukari-Kente road, but did not confirm whether Governor Agbu Kefas’ mother and sister were among the victims, as reported on social media. The incident, which took place on Thursday, initially prompted widespread social media reports claiming that the Governor’s mother, Jumai Kefas, and his sister, Atsi Kefas, were attacked by gunmen. The Chairman of Wukari Local Government, Dauda Samaila Agbu, had earlier reported that Atsi Kefas sustained gunshot injuries and was treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari before being airlifted to Abuja for further medical care.
In response to the initial social media claims, a government official swiftly dismissed the reports, labeling them as “fake news” in a WhatsApp post on Thursday evening. However, speaking to journalists in Jalingo on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Abdullahi Usman confirmed the occurrence of a robbery attack on the Wukari-Kente road but refrained from verifying the involvement of the Governor’s family members. Usman assured the public that an investigation was underway, and the police were working to apprehend those responsible for the attack. He urged residents of Taraba to remain calm, emphasizing that law enforcement and other agencies were actively managing the security situation in the state.
