Nigeria Police Force Denies Involvement in Viral Fuel Scooping Video, Blames Disinformation

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed claims linking its officers to a viral video showing uniformed personnel scooping fuel from a crashed tanker. In a statement issued on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that the individuals in the video were not Nigerian police officers but uniformed personnel from a neighboring francophone country.
The viral video, which circulated widely on social media, depicted personnel in camouflage uniforms scooping fuel from the wreckage of an accident involving a tanker. The NPF said the uniforms in question closely resembled those worn by Nigerian police officers, but the individuals in the video were speaking French, not any Nigerian language or English.
The NPF condemned the spread of “disinformation and unverified content” aimed at tarnishing the force’s reputation. ACP Adejobi stressed that the police force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), remains committed to professionalism, discipline, and public safety.
“We strongly condemn the spread of such disinformation, as it not only undermines the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force but also has negative consequences for the nation and its people,” Adejobi said, emphasizing the NPF’s dedication to maintaining the safety and security of Nigerians.
The NPF urged the public to exercise caution when sharing information and to verify facts before circulating unconfirmed content. The force called for efforts to preserve national unity and uphold the credibility of institutions committed to ensuring public safety.
