President Tinubu Celebrates 64th Independence Day at Aso Rock with Dignitaries Amidst Low-Key Observance

1 min read

President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja for the 64th Independence Day Parade. Serving as the special guest of honour, he was welcomed into the venue around 10:10 AM for the event themed “Reflecting on the Past; Inspiring the Future.”

Following the national salute, President Tinubu conducted an inspection of the Guard of Honour, comprised of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, led by Lt. Col. Moshood Yusuf. This marks Tinubu’s second observance of Independence Day as President.

While previous Independence Day ceremonies were held at Eagle Square, the current administration has relocated the event back to the Presidential Villa. This decision was announced in October 2023 by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who noted that the anniversary would be observed in a low-key manner due to the challenging economic situation.

In attendance at the ceremony were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, SGF Akume, National Security Adviser Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, cabinet members, former presidents and vice presidents, as well as heads of paramilitary organizations and members of the diplomatic corps.
