Students and staff members of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State have been freed after spending seven months in captivity. They were abducted during an attack in the Gusau area in February. Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed their release in a report on X on Monday.
According to reports, the abducted students and staff of the Federal University Gusau have regained their freedom. While the specifics of their release are not entirely clear, sources from security analyst Zagazola Makama suggest that security forces were instrumental in securing their release.
Zagazola Makama reported that the students and staff were abducted by bandits during an attack in the Gusau area in February of this year.
The news of the students and staff from the Federal University Gusau regaining their freedom has brought relief to their families and the academic community, who have anxiously awaited their safe return. Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed that all abducted individuals have returned in good health after an extended period in captivity.
In September 2023, a large number of students were reportedly kidnapped from the university. Abubakar Sani, a resident of Sabon Gida village, recounted that the bandits, who arrived in significant numbers, stormed the students’ off-campus residences. He noted that most of the abducted students were female and that the attack occurred around 4:00 am, targeting three students’ hostels.
