President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his victory in the recent Edo State governorship election held on Saturday.

Monday Okpebholo, 54, won the Edo State governorship election with 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, who received 247,274 votes, and Olumide Akpata of the LP, who garnered 22,763 votes. In total, fourteen candidates participated, with the remaining candidates trailing significantly. President Bola Tinubu, in a statement by spokesman Bayo Onanuga, urged Okpebholo to view his victory as a call to service and to foster unity by reaching out to rivals. Tinubu also commended all candidates for their role in enhancing Nigeria’s democratic process, highlighting the importance of peaceful elections for national stability.

President Tinubu encouraged anyone dissatisfied with the election results to pursue legal remedies. He praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for their efforts in ensuring a successful and peaceful election. “INEC has once again shown its commitment to conducting free and fair elections in our country,” he stated.
