Abuja Rail Mass Transit Hits Major Milestone: Over 250,000 Passengers Served in First 100 Days

The Abuja Rail Mass Transit, known as the Metro Rail, launched its commercial operations on May 29, 2024, after being inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu. Since then, it has successfully transported over 250,000 passengers in just over 100 days.
John Zhao, an official from the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), which built and now operates the system, shared this update on his X account.
In addition, President Tinubu recently announced an extension of free train rides on the Metro Rail for an additional six months, following an earlier two-month complimentary period initiated by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The rail system features two lines, spans 45 kilometers, and includes 12 stations, operating safely at speeds of up to 100 km/h.
He highlighted that the rail line connects the city center, the international airport, and Kubwa satellite town, which has greatly alleviated traffic congestion in Abuja.
“The Phase I of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, built by #CCECC, has been safely operating for over 100 days! It consists of two lines, covering a total length of 45 km and featuring 12 stations, with trains reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h.
This system links the Abuja city center, the international airport, and Kubwa satellite town. So far, it has served over 250,000 passengers, significantly reducing traffic congestion in the capital. Check it out!” the post stated.
