Atiku Calls for Change in Edo State, Urges Voters to Reject APC and Support Ighodalo for a Prosperous Future

3 min read

In a statement shared on his X handle titled “The Clear Choice for a Prosperous Edo State,” Atiku urged voters in Edo to embrace change ahead of the upcoming election on September 21, 2024. He criticized the APC for abandoning the principles of good governance and neglecting the needs of ordinary citizens.

“At this pivotal moment, as the people of Edo State prepare to make their voices heard, let us recognize the tremendous power we hold,” he stated. “This is our opportunity to break free from the constraints of poor governance and to forge a new path for our state. Your vote is not just a ballot; it is a vital tool for change.”

Atiku criticized the APC, claiming they present themselves as friends of the masses while hiding a darker reality. In a recent statement, he accused the party of deceiving voters with empty promises, emphasizing that their true motivation is a quest for power rather than the welfare of the people.

“They have abandoned the principles of good governance, ignoring the struggles of ordinary citizens to pursue their own interests,” he asserted. “Under their leadership, Nigeria has descended into a state of suffering, marked by poverty, despair, and insecurity.”

Atiku lamented the dire circumstances facing the nation, stating, “The vibrant spirit of our country has been dimmed, and basic necessities, like food, have become unattainable for millions. Our people are not just battling disease; they are facing hunger. We are at a low point in our governance, and the APC has prioritized their own gains over the needs of the populace.”

Atiku highlighted the repression faced by citizens who voice their grievances, stating that those who protest have been silenced and even faced treason charges, while APC leaders live in luxury, seemingly oblivious to the hardships afflicting the nation.

Despite this bleak situation, Atiku expressed hope, identifying Dr. Asue Ighodalo as a symbol of integrity and vision. He argued that Ighodalo’s candidacy represents a chance for redemption for Edo State, asserting that unlike the APC, Ighodalo is prepared to lead with competence and a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.

“As you prepare to vote, reflect on the impact the APC has had on your life,” Atiku urged the citizens of Edo State. “Have they improved your circumstances, or deepened your struggles? The answer is clear.”

He emphasized that voting for Ighodalo would not only initiate change in Edo State but also send a powerful message throughout Nigeria, signaling a rejection of the deceit and self-interest associated with the APC.

Atiku accused the APC of betraying the people for nearly a decade, highlighting their criticism of previous leaders for raising fuel prices while now overseeing costs that exceed N900 per litre. He condemned the party’s indifference to the struggles of the masses.

“A vote for the APC is a vote for continued misery, hunger, and despair,” Atiku asserted. “Edo State, open your eyes. Do not be misled by the empty promises of the APC. Supporting Dr. Asue Ighodalo of the PDP is not just a vote; it’s a step toward reclaiming our future.”

He urged voters to recognize this choice as an opportunity to build on the positive work of Governor Godwin Obaseki, fostering a future filled with prosperity, dignity, and hope.

“As we head to the polls this Saturday, let us unite in our determination to bring about the change we desperately need. Cast your votes for Asue Ighodalo and help usher in a new dawn for Edo State. The power is in your hands—use it wisely.”
