2 min read

Senator Dino Melaye, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been suspended over alleged anti-party activities. The suspension, announced on Friday, was decided by the Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 party executive committee after a review by a disciplinary committee.

The committee’s investigation reportedly found that Melaye’s recent actions were harmful to the PDP’s interests and unity, leading to the decision to suspend him. This disciplinary action aligns with the party’s precedent of addressing similar issues. For example, in August 2024, PDP chieftain Peter Babalola from Osun was also suspended for alleged anti-party activities and for failing to attend party meetings over the past two years.

In a recent development, Samuel Ortom, the former Governor of Benue State, has been suspended from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of Benue State due to accusations of engaging in activities deemed contrary to the party’s interests.

In a related move, Senator Gabriel Suswam and several others have been summoned by the Benue State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in connection with allegations of serious misconduct and actions deemed detrimental to the party. These measures highlight the PDP’s dedication to upholding party discipline and unity. Meanwhile, details regarding the suspension of Melaye are still unfolding, with further information anticipated.

The resolution to suspend Senator Dino Melaye stated:“Senator Dino Melaye’s actions have caused significant embarrassment and damage to the party, rendering his continued membership untenable.

“Consequently, the Ward party executive committee (exco) has decided to suspend Dino Melaye from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately.

“This suspension is in accordance with Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, which authorizes the Ward party excos to enforce disciplinary measures against members who violate party standards.”
