Eniola Bolaji Makes History as First African to Win Para-Badminton Medal; Nigeria Ends Medal Drought with Bronze in Paris

Eniola Bolaji has made history as the first African athlete to win a medal in Para-Badminton, earning a bronze for Nigeria in the Women’s Singles SL3 category. On Monday morning, Bolaji secured the medal by defeating Ukrainian Oksana Kozyna in straight sets, 21-9, 21-9. Although Bolaji had aimed for gold, she fell short in the semi-finals on Sunday, losing 2-0 (16-21, 17-21) to China’s Zuxian Xiao. Despite this setback, Bolaji secured the bronze medal on Monday, marking Nigeria’s first Paralympic medal in Paris.

Many will be relieved to see Nigeria break its medal drought, following a series of disappointing results at the Olympic Games and the recently concluded World U-20 Athletics Championship.
