WAEC Temporarily Blocks Access to 2025 WASSCE Results Over Technical Glitches
Lagos, August 7, 2025 — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily suspended access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results following the discovery of technical issues linked to a newly implemented result release system.
In a statement released on Thursday by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, WAEC said the decision was made after an internal review revealed errors caused by a recently introduced paper serialisation system, designed to combat examination malpractice.
“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation already deployed by a national examination body. The paper serialization was carried out in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics,” the statement read in part.
WAEC explained that while the system had shown promise in deterring cheating, a post-release audit revealed technical bugs in the results of affected subjects, prompting the Council to act swiftly to protect the integrity of the examination process.
To address the issue, WAEC has temporarily disabled access to the 2025 results via its online portal, assuring candidates and stakeholders that the errors are being rectified as a matter of urgency.
“We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public. We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency within the next twenty-four hours,” the statement added.
Candidates who had previously accessed their results are advised to revisit the result-checker portal after 24 hours to obtain the corrected version.
WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, professionalism, and best global practices in educational assessment, urging the public to continue to have confidence in its processes.
The Council noted that it remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards in delivering credible examinations and reliable results across the sub-region.
