Atiku’s Camp Accuses APC of Using Wike to Weaken PDP, APC Denies Allegations

The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency of using the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to destabilize and weaken the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, made the allegations during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday. Ibe claimed that the APC has turned the PDP into a “playground” to exacerbate its internal crisis and spread it to other opposition parties, with Wike acting as a key figure in this strategy.
Ibe stated, “The process of bringing the party back from the precipice is still ongoing. The PDP has become a playground for the APC in their effort to destroy opposition parties. Not just the PDP, but even the Labour Party is being targeted, with Wike used as a tool. His mandate is clear: to weaken and destroy the PDP.”
In response, the APC’s National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, questioned the logic of using Wike to damage a party that is already in turmoil. Ibrahim pointed out that Wike is not a member of the APC and has not publicly aligned himself with the ruling party. He said, “Wike is not a card-carrying member of the APC, and he has not claimed to be working for the APC. He is still a member of the PDP. Why are they attributing motives to him that he has not acknowledged? If they have concerns, they should directly confront Wike with these questions.”
Ibrahim further emphasized that the PDP’s internal issues are their own to resolve and criticized them for deflecting blame onto others. He concluded, “The APC has bigger challenges than trying to manipulate Wike. He is an independent man, a former governor, and now a minister. If there is an alliance, it will be between willing parties, not something imposed. The PDP should face its internal issues rather than projecting them onto others.”
