Pastor Adeboye Raises Alarm Over Arrest of RCCG Pastor Abroad for Gender-Specific Greeting

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has expressed concern over the arrest of one of the church’s pastors abroad, following a remark made during a public gathering. The pastor was detained for addressing the attendees as “ladies and gentlemen,” which was perceived as discriminatory for failing to recognize all the gender identities acknowledged in the host country’s culture.
Adeboye shared this incident during the RCCG’s monthly thanksgiving service at the Throne of Grace Parish in Lagos State, on Sunday. The sermon, which was broadcast to all RCCG parishes, was titled “My Father’s House.” In his address, Adeboye warned the congregation that the world is nearing the end, with societal values rapidly deteriorating. He used this arrest as a wake-up call to underscore the growing challenges faced by Christians in today’s world.
The pastor’s arrest followed complaints from some individuals who questioned why the traditional greeting didn’t include those who do not identify as either “ladies” or “gentlemen.” Adeboye stressed that such incidents are signs of the worsening moral climate and the approaching end times.
The clergyman also recounted a troubling encounter with a woman who referred to her dog as her “husband.” When asked about her spouse, the woman explained that she had taken the animal to the vet before coming and humorously remarked that her “husband” did not talk. Adeboye expressed his concern about the erosion of moral values, seeing these developments as indicative of the broader moral decline in society.
He urged believers to take their faith seriously, warning those who merely “play church” without genuine commitment. He reminded them that Christ’s return is imminent and stressed the importance of staying steadfast in their faith to avoid falling prey to the devil’s influence.
In a broader critique of current trends, Adeboye has recently expressed dissatisfaction with certain fashion choices among RCCG members, including men wearing braided hair and women sporting false eyelashes and heavy makeup. During the church’s 72nd annual convention in August, Adeboye made it clear that such styles would no longer be permitted on RCCG altars, emphasizing the need for a return to traditional values in church settings.
This year’s convention, themed “Heaven,” took place from August 5 to August 11, 2024, at The Redemption City in Mowe, Ogun State.
