Miss South Africa 2024 Mia Le Roux Withdraws from Miss Universe Due to Health Concerns

2 min read

Mia Le Roux, who was recently crowned Miss South Africa 2024, has announced that she will not be competing in the Miss Universe pageant due to health issues. In a heartfelt statement released on Friday by the Miss South Africa Organisation, Le Roux expressed her deep gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received from South Africans but acknowledged that stepping back from the global competition was necessary to focus on her well-being.

“This decision has been incredibly challenging for me, as I am aware of the hopes and dreams that many have placed upon me,” Le Roux said. “However, after careful consideration, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to prioritize my health and recovery. This will allow me to regain my strength and continue to serve my country to the best of my ability in the future.”

The Miss South Africa Organisation expressed full support for Le Roux, commending her resilience and courage during this difficult time. “Mia has shown remarkable grace and determination,” the organization said in its statement. “Her health and well-being are our top priority, and we will continue to support her as she focuses on her recovery. We are confident that she will return to full strength in due course.”

Le Roux’s withdrawal comes amid a year of controversy surrounding the Miss South Africa pageant. Earlier in the competition, Chidimma Adetshina, a contestant with both Nigerian and South African heritage, faced intense backlash over her nationality. The controversy intensified when the South African Home Affairs Ministry launched an investigation into allegations that Adetshina’s mother had committed identity theft. In the wake of the public outcry, Adetshina withdrew from the competition and went on to win the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 crown.

Le Roux, who is of Dutch (Boer) descent, was crowned Miss South Africa 2024 shortly after Adetshina’s exit. Despite the challenges surrounding this year’s competition, Le Roux has become a beacon of hope and pride for South Africa, and her health remains the top priority moving forward.
