Edo State Governor Suspends All Revenue Collections, Orders Arrests for Violations
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collections in the state, particularly at motor parks and similar locations, effective Wednesday. The governor’s directive comes shortly after he and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, were sworn into office on Tuesday by the state’s Chief Justice, Daniel Okungbowa, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
In a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo made it clear that the suspension would remain in effect until further notice, with a review of the situation to be conducted soon. The governor stated that a decision would be made on how to proceed with revenue collections after the review.
The statement also included a stern warning to anyone who attempts to continue revenue collection during this period. The governor ordered the state Commissioner of Police to arrest anyone found defying the suspension.
The statement reads: “The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collections in Edo, especially in motor parks and similar areas, until further notice. The governor will review the issues surrounding the collections soon and decide on the way forward.”
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that no individual or group is authorized to collect revenue on behalf of the state government during this period. He further warned that any person found violating this directive would face arrest.
“The Commissioner of Police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts the order and collects any kind of revenue on behalf of the state government,” the statement concluded.
The governor assured that he would address the concerns surrounding the revenue collections and issue new directives in due course.
