Enugu Police Warn Public of Fake Audio Misattributed to Commissioner Kanayo Uzuegbu, Launch Investigation

The Enugu State Police have issued a public warning regarding a misleading audio and image circulating on social media, which falsely claims that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, is sharing “new communication rules for WhatsApp chats and calls.” This statement was released by the Command’s Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Friday.
In the statement, Ndukwe urged the public to disregard the audio, clarifying that it does not represent any official communication from the police command. He emphasized the need for caution, as the dissemination of such misleading information could have serious implications.
The police have initiated an investigation and a manhunt to identify those responsible for creating and spreading the false audio. Ndukwe highlighted that WhatsApp, a platform owned by Meta, is a reputable international organization that would not rely on unofficial channels to communicate changes to its services.
Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police has mandated a thorough, intelligence-led investigation aimed at identifying and prosecuting the individuals behind this misinformation. He expressed concern over the unauthorized use of his image in connection with this false narrative.
The police encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any further instances of misleading information or suspicious activities related to the misuse of social media.
