President Tinubu Launches 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem, Pledges ₦500 Million in Support
On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu launched the 2025 Armed Forces of Nigeria Remembrance Day emblem and appeal fund during a ceremony held at the Council Chamber in the State House, Abuja. The event highlighted the significant role of the Armed Forces as the nation’s first line of defense.
In his remarks, President Tinubu commended the Armed Forces for their unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity, stability, and progress. He emphasized that security is essential for promoting peace and development, stating, “Without security, it would be impossible to foster an environment where citizens can thrive.”
The President expressed deep appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices made by the Nigerian troops in ensuring national security. He underlined the importance of creating a safe and secure environment, free from threats and criminal activities, where all Nigerians can flourish and live in peace. “We owe a debt of gratitude to the gallant troops who have risen to the challenge of protecting our nation,” he remarked.
As part of the ceremony, President Tinubu, alongside the Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House, and Chief Justice of Nigeria, received the 2025 emblem from Major General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff.
To honor the efforts of fallen heroes, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, announced a donation of ₦500 million on behalf of the Executive branch, marking a significant contribution. The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, also pledged ₦200 million from the National Assembly. Additionally, Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa announced a donation of ₦50 million from the Service Chiefs, while the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetoken, also made a contribution.
President Tinubu’s ₦500 million donation represents the largest amount contributed by a sitting president to the Emblem Appeal Launch. This initiative is part of an annual event leading up to the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, which serves as a reminder of the nation’s commitment to honoring its military heroes and supporting veterans and their families.
