Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has pledged N100 million to support victims of the recent fire disaster at Kantin Kwari Textile Market.

The announcement was made during a sympathy visit to the traders on Thursday, as detailed in a statement from the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Tofa.

Governor Yusuf clarified that the donation is not intended to compensate for the losses suffered but to help alleviate the hardships faced by the affected traders. “The donation is meant to support those impacted and mitigate their suffering,” he stated.

During his visit, Governor Abba Yusuf committed to enhancing conditions at Kantin Kwari Textile Market by installing solar lights, rehabilitating the road network, constructing drainage systems, and providing motorized boreholes, among other initiatives.

He reassured the traders of the state government’s dedication to preserving Kano’s status as the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria and the wider West African region.

Hamisu Nama, the Managing Director of the Kantin Kwari Market Management Board, informed Governor Abba Yusuf that the recent fire destroyed 29 shops. He expressed gratitude to firefighters and good Samaritans for their prompt response during the incident.

Additionally, Sabu’u Bako, the Chairman of the Market Elders Committee, thanked the governor for his support and requested assistance in addressing ongoing operational challenges facing the market.
