Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has apologized for his earlier assertion that Christians who do not pay tithes might not reach heaven. In a recent video that has circulated online, Adeboye acknowledged this statement as a “mistake” during his address to a youth congregation at the ongoing RCCG Youth Convention at Redemption Camp. He clarified that, according to the Bible, the true prerequisites for entering heaven are peaceful and holy living.
Pastor Enoch Adeboye has expressed regret for his previous statement suggesting that those who do not pay tithes may not reach heaven. “I apologize for saying ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible,” he stated, emphasizing that the scripture actually teaches, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.”
Adeboye elaborated, “It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time,” citing his background in science to illustrate how our understanding evolves. He noted that for years, it was believed that light traveled in a straight line until it was discovered that it moves in waves. He also remarked on the concept of tithing, suggesting that the traditional 10% should be seen as a starting point, as individuals might give 20, 30, or even 40%.
