Federal High Court Grants Bail to #EndBadGovernance Protesters, Sets Conditions at N10 Million Each

1 min read

On Wednesday, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to ten #EndBadGovernance protesters who had been arrested and charged with treason, among other offenses. Each defendant was granted bail in the sum of N10 million, with one surety required for each in the same amount.

In his ruling, Justice Nwite emphasized the importance of Nigeria’s criminal justice system, which ensures that both the prosecution and the defense adhere to established legal procedures. He supported the argument put forth by the defense counsel for the 1st, 2nd, and 4th defendants, Abubakar Marshall, that every individual charged with a criminal offense is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Consequently, Justice Nwite approved the bail applications for all ten defendants.

Justice Emeka Nwite stated, “I have carefully considered the submissions from both the prosecution and the defense. I hereby grant bail to the defendants despite the seriousness of the charges.”

He further detailed, “The bail is set at N10 million for each defendant, with one surety required in the same amount.”
