Okai Urges Unity and Immediate Government Action Amidst Nigeria’s Deepening Economic Crisis and Rising Crime Rates

Kogi-born political activist and Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Austin Okai, has expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s deteriorating economic conditions. In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, titled “Nigerians in Despair: People Are Hungry, Crime Rates Rising,” Okai criticized the Federal Government’s current economic policies, claiming they are exacerbating citizens’ suffering. He urged the ruling All Progressives Congress to hold an emergency meeting with the president to urgently address the nation’s economic crisis and the resulting increase in hardship and crime.
Austin Okai, a Kogi-born political activist and Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, stressed the need for honesty and accountability in addressing Nigeria’s worsening economic crisis. He emphasized that appeasing those in power is not the priority, but rather confronting the harsh realities facing the nation. Okai highlighted the growing vulnerability of citizens, the alarming increase in crime rates, and the severe fuel scarcity, which forces many Nigerians to spend up to 24 hours at filling stations to obtain fuel.
The value of the Naira’s sharp decline has rendered basic food items increasingly unaffordable for many families. He called on the government to adopt prompt and effective measures to address these urgent concerns, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive economic strategy that prioritizes citizens’ welfare. “We must put the people first. Current policies are failing us, and it’s time for a change that aligns with our everyday realities,” he stated.
The Kogi PDP stalwart has called on Nigerians to come together and demand accountability from their leaders. Highlighting the increasing frustration among citizens and the pressing need for the government to address the country’s economic issues, he remarked, “As conditions continue to deteriorate, many are questioning how much longer they can endure the daily struggles in Nigeria.” He emphasized, “We cannot remain passive while our nation falls apart. It’s crucial for us to unite and advocate for the significant change we urgently need.”
