Nonye Ezeayaeche Urges Nigerian Government to Address Hunger, Inequality, and Protect Free Speech

Nonye Ezeayaeche, a 105-year-old veteran politician and activist, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take decisive action against hunger and inequality in Nigeria. Ezeayaeche, who was the oldest presidential candidate in the 2023 elections with the African Action Congress, made this appeal during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
A respected centenarian from Anambra State, known as the “great, great, great grandma of Africa,” recently urged President Buhari`s Administration to take decisive action administration to address the pressing issues of hunger and inequality in Nigeria. At a press conference in Abuja, Ezeayaeche emphasized the need for the government to respond to the demands of Nigerian youths, which were highlighted during the 10-day protests against hunger and poor governance.
She emphasized the need for respecting freedom of speech and the right to protest, highlighting that these are fundamental rights protected by many constitutions, including Nigeria’s.
She called on the government to address the root causes of the agitation, stressing that Nigeria belongs to everyone and that peace can only be achieved by ensuring the rights of all citizens are upheld, regardless of their background.
The centenarian condemned the exploitation of protests by harmful elements aiming to cause destruction or instigate regime change. She recommended compensating families affected by the violence, establishing monitoring groups to ensure government programs reach local communities, and intensifying efforts against corruption and mismanagement of national resources.
