The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disclaimed the reported release date of August 5, 2024, for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, stating it has not been verified or confirmed by them.
According to WAEC, the date in question was speculated by an external source and not officially announced. Moyosore Adeyegbe, WAEC’s Communication Officer, emphasized that the actual release date could occur earlier or later than August 5.
Meanwhile, Mr. Abiodun Abubakar, an examiner involved in the marking process, informed that the grading activities and the return of examination scripts to WAEC offices were recently concluded. He suggested that, considering these developments, the results might be expected in the initial weeks of August. However, he noted the possibility of delays due to external factors such as the planned August 1 protest.
In March 2022, WAEC announced that the implementation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) had reduced the processing time for WASSCE results from 84 days to 45 days.
The 2024 WASSCE examinations concluded on Monday, June 20, 2024, with the last subject being Wood Work. Today, Tuesday, July 30, marks the 40th day since the completion of the examinations.
Given WAEC’s goal to release results within 45 days of the last examination paper, and considering today is the 40th day, it suggests that the results could potentially be released within the next few days, in line with the expected timeframe.
