Oyo APC Chairman Alleges; Powerful Figures Back Planned Hunger Protest
2 min readIsaac Omodewu, the Chairman of the Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC), issues a warning regarding protests against the Federal Government, cautioning that such demonstrations could be manipulated by enemies and economic saboteurs. He emphasized that resorting to violent street protests and inciting anarchy is not a viable path for genuine patriots who aspire for a better Nigeria.
He underscored the belief that no nation has achieved lasting solutions through chaotic internal strife or reckless rebellion. Instead, he advocated for dialogue as a constructive approach, echoing the sentiments of many thought leaders who have called on protest sponsors to prioritize peaceful means of addressing grievances and effecting positive change.
He acknowledged the economic difficulties resulting from President Tinubu’s decision to remove subsidies on imported petroleum products as of May 29, 2024. Omodewu, as stated by Oyo APC Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare, criticized the protests against this move, attributing them to powerful individuals who have profited from the previous flawed system.
He further commented, “These individuals perceive potential benefits for Nigeria in President Tinubu’s initiatives, but they resist change because they prefer maintaining the current status quo, even if it harms the country in the long run.”
Omodewu highlighted that President Bola Tinubu’s administration made a decisive move to end subsidies on imported petroleum products, resulting in price increases that have significantly impacted many people. However, he reassured the public that President Tinubu is actively addressing the situation and urged patience and understanding, emphasizing that relief measures are forthcoming.
He cautioned against supporting protests, drawing attention to the criminal elements that hijacked the 2020 ENDSARS protests. Omodewu emphasized the competence, commitment, and dedication of President Tinubu to Nigeria’s rescue, urging citizens not to unwittingly aid disruptive forces. He urged those considering participating in planned protests to reconsider and allow the government to focus on addressing national challenges.
