Akpabio Summons Emergency Senate Session Ahead of Nationwide Protest Against Hunger and Hardship
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has convened an emergency Senate meeting.
He has called for an emergency Senate meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 31, 2024, coinciding with the eve of a nationwide protest against hunger and hardship.
The memo reads, “Dear Distinguished Senators, the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, has directed an emergency plenary sitting of the Senate as follows: Date: Wednesday, July 31st, 2024; Time: 12 noon.”
“Distinguished Senators are urged to make necessary arrangements to attend, as matters of national importance will be addressed. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this interruption of the seven-week recess, originally scheduled to reconvene on September 17th, 2024. The recess began after last week’s Wednesday plenary session. Both the Senate and House of Representatives were expected to observe this annual break.”
