Defends EnzMarescao Fernandez Against Racism Allegations, Denies Malicious Intenct

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has come to the defense of Enzo Fernandez after he posted a clip showing his teammates singing offensive chants directed at French players.

 

The incident took place as Fernandez celebrated Argentina’s Copa América victory. The song included racist and homophobic remarks concerning the heritage of certain French players.”

Enzo Fernandez, currently on holiday, has publicly apologized for his actions.

Chelsea has responded by initiating an internal disciplinary procedure in light of the incident involving Enzo Fernandez.

In a statement, the club emphasized their commitment to using this incident as an educational opportunity.

 

“We acknowledge and appreciate our player’s public apology and will use this as an opportunity for education.”

In an interview with ESPN in the US, Maresca downplayed the severity of the incident, indicating that it did not affect team spirit at Stamford Bridge.

 

“I don’t believe there were any malicious intentions behind it, so starting from that perspective, for me it’s straightforward. The player has already issued an apology. The club has done the same, so there isn’t much more to add. From my point of view, they are all young individuals with good intentions. They’re good guys, good people, good human beings. There was no ill will involved.”
