Peter Obi Laments Over State Of Nigeria’s Economy And Urge Unity To Address Prevailing Hardship.

1 min read

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has expressed dissatisfaction with the current economic hardship.

He compared the current economy and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with those of former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Late Musa Yaradua, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari.

In his analysis, Obi pointed out that Nigeria maintained an average GDP growth of about 6.72% from 1999 to 2014 after returning to democratic governance. However, he highlighted a significant decline to 2.79% in 2015, attributing this to a lack of sustained efforts by the government of that time. He emphasized his belief that politics should prioritize service to the people and societal improvement.

Addressing the current challenges, Obi called on leaders to pursue inclusive and sustainable growth to alleviate the enduring hardships faced by Nigerians. He emphasized that achieving such growth is essential for building a peaceful and secure society. Obi expressed optimism that a New Nigeria, grounded in improved economic and patriotic principles, is achievable.
