Wigwe University’s Steep Fees Set to Make It Nigeria’s Priciest Higher Institution by August

Wigwe University, slated to welcome its inaugural batch of students soon, aims to deliver a top-tier education geared towards preparing students for the challenges of tomorrow.
Founded by the late Herbert Wigwe, former CEO of Access Holdings, the university’s mission is to provide students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills.
Tragically, Herbert Wigwe, along with his wife Chizoba and son Chizzy, lost their lives in a helicopter crash in California on February 9, 2024.
Situated in Isiokpo, Rivers State, Wigwe University boasts four main colleges: Management and Social Sciences, Art, Science and Computing, and Engineering, offering a diverse array of programs.
However, prospective students should brace themselves for hefty fees, as Wigwe University is poised to become the country’s most expensive tertiary institution upon its official launch.
A perusal of the university’s website reveals that the College of Arts offers the most affordable tuition at N9.6 million. Meanwhile, students enrolling in the College of Engineering, Management and Social Sciences, and Science and Computing will each shell out a total of ₦11,998,800.
These fees encompass tuition, books, laboratory supplies, personal protective equipment, e-learning resources, health insurance, and more.
Additionally, students must account for accommodation expenses, ranging from ₦1,000,000 for luxury single bedroom apartments to ₦3,500,000 for classic two-bedroom plans per session.
While defending its decision to charge in dollars, the university management clarified that domestic students would pay in naira, while international students could opt for dollar payments, aligning with its goal of fostering a diverse and globally minded student community.
