Criticism Erupts Over Super Eagles’ New Nike Kits

In the wake of Nike’s official unveiling of the Super Eagles’ new kits on Monday, a wave of discontent surged across social media platforms as some Nigerians expressed dissatisfaction with the latest designs, according to reports from PUNCH Sports Extra.

Nike shared a video on its social media channels showcasing the Eagles’ jerseys, bringing an end to speculation following earlier leaked designs. These kits are slated for use during the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, marking the first instance where the three-time African champions will sport white as their home attire, while the traditional green jersey will serve as the away kit.

The new home jersey boasts green-white-green tape adorning the sleeves and shorts, along with a faded eagle design on the front. Notably, the absence of the Eagles’ logo on the shirts, only appearing on the shorts, caught the attention of fans. Additionally, Nike’s logo, typically matching the Eagles’ color scheme, is featured in red.

Criticism mounted over the ‘Naija’ inscription on the shirts, with some fans arguing that ‘Nigeria’ should have been used instead. Others expressed dismay over the prominence of white in the kits, insisting that green should have been more predominant, and questioned the use of red for Nike’s logo. The square neckline design also drew disapproval from certain quarters.

Disgruntled fans took to social media to voice their discontent, with some suggesting that the design lacked elements representative of Nigerian culture and heritage. Calls for a redesign reverberated across platforms, signaling widespread dissatisfaction with Nike’s latest offering for the Super Eagles.

The unveiling of the new kits has ignited a debate within the Nigerian football community, with opinions sharply divided over Nike’s design choices for the revered national team jerseys.
