Lagos Government Unveils Plan for Monthly Rental Payments, Eyes Implementation by 2024

The Lagos state government has announced its intention to introduce monthly rental payments, with enforcement expected by the end of 2024 or early the following year. Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Housing, shared this during a recent press briefing in Ikeja. She emphasized the inspiration drawn from other regions where rents are collected monthly and mentioned that the policy would consider tenants’ earnings.
The implementation will begin as a trial within the public sector to gauge its effectiveness before extending it to the private sector.
